First let me say that we felt that we were lucky to get Tim Phelps as our builder. He came highly recommended, and was even described to us as the builder’s builder! When he completed our house we were inclined to agree! We never worried throughout the entire building of our house!  He was always available  to address issues as  they arose. To be honest, I had so many different changes that I wanted to put in place - Tim and his team were always accommodating.  Changes were completed quickly and efficiently.  We had excellent communication throughout the building process.  Tim is honest, reliable and trustworthy.   We feel very fortunate to have Tim and his team build our home and we are truly grateful! We purchased a cottage located in the Historic Cotton Mill Village of Edenton North Carolina July of 2016 knowing that it would require lots of work to make it our home and enhance its historical appearance.  We had many trying days and weeks attempting to accomplish the various projects we had listed for our home.  Contractors would not return calls or would show up then never heard from again.  After spinning our wheels and an enormous amount of frustration someone recommended that we call Mike Whistler, a local Brick Mason.  Mike came out took a look at his part of the project and talked with me about all the various items we were trying to accomplish and he recommended I call Tim Phelps of Tim Phelps & Company.  In fact Mike called Tim and put me on the phone with him.  We made an appointment and when Tim came out to our home with his dog Murphy and we handed him our list my wife and I knew we had the right man to bring our home to life.  Tim took our list provided a cost to accomplish the tasks and immediately set to work.  Along the way we made changes and additions which Tim took in stride and just kept moving forward.  The subcontractors he used were all helpful and professional.  The bottom line is Tim did what he said he would do in an honest straight forward manner and was very knowledgeable and easy to work with.  He would say to me “I can do that I can get it done.” 

These few words don’t express the worry and frustration we had prior to meeting Tim.  We love Edenton and because of Tim we have the home we had hoped for.  The mark of a good contractor is would you use him again?  Yes we would!  Gary & Beth Campbell

Sally and I heartily recommend Tim Phelps & Co.  During the time just prior to Hurricane Isabel’s arrival with 7’ storm surge, we engaged Tim to remodel a small half bath.  Then came the storm to our waterfront & in the water home.  What followed once the water and moisture were under control was a complete restoration of the first floor including a redo of the kitchen he had previously done.  With the extensive damage to the community tradesman were scarce.  As I recall from the September storm, we had the use of our kitchen Christmas morning. (We lived upstairs during the project)  Later we had Tim design an enclosure for our large back porch which has become a focal point for much of our living.  We are well pleased with the results.  He has also promptly attended to several small requests.  Jim & Sally Blount

Tim has performed enormously well for us. He first took down an old house on the Albemarle Sound that I had since 1972. He was careful to remove and preserve a large amount of the paneling that I wanted reused in the new house. He built a new house with especially finishing carpentry that has received large amounts of praise. About three years ago, I enlarged this house by adding a formal dining room, study, garage, and an additional bedroom above the garage. Once again, there was flawless execution and beautiful finishing carpentry. In between these projects, pipes had frozen and the old house had become flooded with several inches of water throughout the entire house. Tim and his crew were immediately available and got that water up. Nevertheless, the entire wood floor on the first floor was damaged and he worked closely with the insurance company to get new flooring that looks much better than the old flooring installed. All of this was done with my insurance covering everything. It was about a $30,000 project covered completely by insurance. Finally, with a very cold spell a year later, additional piping froze. Tim had this fixed immediately and found that the problem with that pipe freezing was inadequate insulation in the attic. Even though it was something like seven years from the original construction, he was able to get the insulation company to fix that with no new charge to me.
